TENBY U14s 2

HAKIN UTD U14s 5

A large crowd at Monkton saw Tenby lose the Under 14s cup final to Hakin United for the second year running.

Tenby went into the game slight favourites after beating Hakin in the first round of the West Wales Cup earlier in the season.

In the first-half Tenby played with the elements and put Hakin under enormous pressure, with some strong attacking football from Mickey Boswell, Sam Christopher, Guto Griffiths and Billy Vaughan.

Hakin battled well, but conceded a fine goal scored by Mikey Boswell. Tenby continued to push for a second goal and several easy chances went begging. The Hakin 'keeper played well and kept the score down to 1-0 at half-time.

This was certainly a game of two halves. Hakin came out and turned the game around, with Jonathan hall scoring twice in two minutes.

The Tenby defence was sloppy and too many heads went down too quickly. Richard Thomas did his best in goal, but must have been very frustrated by the lack of tackling by his team-mates. Boswell, Adam Johns and Aaron Goldsmith tried to inject some passion in the Tenby side, but to no avail.

Gary Power scored twice again for Hakin, before Boswell restored some pride by netting Tenby's second.

At 2-4 Tenby looked like they might get back into the game, but a superb save by the Hakin 'keeper denied Boswell his hat-trick after he had been put through for a one-on-one by Vaughan.

This was a defining moment of the match and Hakin added another through Craig Robertson as Tenby pushed up in desperation to score.

Tenby's Joe Scourfield had a good game and while the other defenders, Luke Dedman, Brett Evans and Scott Helmich, had a good first-half, they were bombarded in the second by Hakin's attackers.

Henry Boot came on as substitute for Evans for the last quarter of the game.

Thanks to Neil Finlay Cars for supplying the squad with jackets for the final and to all the Tenby supporters.

Squad: Richard Thomas, Brett Evans, Scott Helmich, Joe Scourfield, Guto Griffiths, Billy Vaughan, Aaron Goldsmith (capt.), Adam Johns, Sam Christopher, Mikey Boswell, Luke Dedman, Henry Boot, Michael Halligan, Kurt Walsh.

MERLINS BRIDGE U14s 2

TENBY U14s 5

Just a couple of days after their cup defeat, Tenby had to travel to play against Merlins Bridge in a mid-week game.

Tenby got off to a very slow start and looked sluggish for most of the first-half. Mikey Boswell scored after 20 minutes, but a sip-up in defence allowed the Bridge to equalise soon afterwards.

Instead of closing ranks, the midfield and defence were exposed and the Bridge went 2-1 up. Sam Christopher equalised on the stroke of half-time after some sterling work by Billy Vaughan.

'Keeper Richard Thomas had made several brave one-on-one saves time after time as the defence let the strikers run through them.

The second-half saw a more determined Tenby side, and although many easy chances were missed, Boswell, then Christopher scored two quick goals in succession to ease the pressure off the Tenby defence.

The biggest cheer of the night came when Scott Helmich scored his first goal of the season which put the strikers to shame!

Kurt Walsh came on to replace an injured Aaron Goldsmith and Michael Halligan swapped with Henry Boot, who had played a sterling game in defence.

With several very tough matches coming up, Tenby need to find their form if they seriously want to challenge for the league title.

Squad: Richard Thomas, Brett Evans, Scott Helmich, Joe Scourfield, Guto Griffiths, Billy Vaughan, Aaron Goldsmith (capt.), Adam Johns, Sam Christopher, Mikey Boswell, Henry Boot, Michael Halligan, Kurt Walsh.

JOHNSTON U14s 2

Tenby were showing signs of fatigue from too many matches, as they fell behind to an early Johnston goal.

This was soon equalised by Sam Christopher, but Johnston could have taken the lead again when Richard Thomas dashed out to block a shot.

Mikey Boswell put Tenby 2-1 up, only to see his defence falter to give the visitors another equaliser. Just before half-time Boswell put his team 3-2 ahead to round off a shaky half.

Although without the reliable Adam Johns, due to injury, for the second-half, Tenby found some of their early season form and with some accurate finishing put the game beyond doubt with seven goals of distinction.

Sam Christopher and Mikey Boswell scored alternately to take the score to 7-2 and Billy Vaughan scored the cheekiest goal of the game with a chip over the 'keeper, before Boswell completed the scoring and dashed Johnston's hope of some respectability with two more goals to bring the final tally to 10.

Tenby squad: Richard Thomas, Scott Helmich, Joe Scourfield, Henry Boot, Brett Evans, Billy Vaughan, Adam Johns, Aaron Goldsmith, Michael Halligan, Sam Christopher, Mikey Boswell, Kurt Walsh.
