HERBRANDSTON U13s 0
TENBY U13s 6
The Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions sponsored U13s met Herbrandston hoping to repay in full measure the defeat inflicted on them earlier in the season.
On a cold, breezy, but clear day, Tenby opened strongly and, despite playing up the slight incline, produced the first chance when a well-struck shot hit the bar, denying David Jones the opener.
Although the wind was strengthening in their faces, Tenby were playing all the football. This was proving a tense affair, with skilful touch football matched by the thump upfield as preferred tactics; tackling was fierce but fair.
Tenby were breaking strongly. A good through ball from Jack Lawrence found Ashley Prior in space and he made no mistake to make it 1-0.
Tenby had a stroke of luck clearing from a goalmouth scramble, and Lady Luck soon helped again when the 'keeper mishit a clearance, turning to see the ball rolling in, only for Ieuan Rowell to manage a goal-line clearance.
But really Tenby were in control of the game and at the turnaround went in with a handy two-goal advantage.
With the wind now at their backs, Tenby took the game to Herbrandston and it was that man again Ashley Prior who struck a superb inside ball into the roof of the net.
Ashley Murdoch came on for Damian Walters and good work from James Davies nearly saw Ashley Prior through again, but his shot went wide.
Brilliant follow-up play from David Jones saw him snatch Tenby's fourth and with Herbie in disarray, Ashley Prior banged in number five.
Herbie at last woke up, but Danny Harries in the Tenby goal was alert and up for anything - he commanded the box and his defence worked manfully throughout.
Matthew Fleming was dragged back and down in the box for penalty which was coolly placed in the corner by David Jones.
This was a commanding team performance, with every player working hard and matching skill with endeavour. Tenby mastered the conditions and clearly wanted this from the outset. A fine performance, well done boys, and well done to the supporters who urged the players on every yard.
Tenby team: Danny Harries, Ieuan Rowell, James Davies, Oliver Morgan (capt.), David Saunders, Matthew Fleming, Jack Lawrence, Jamie Robinson, Damian Walters, Ashley Prior, David Jones, Ben Messenger, Ashley Murdoch, Matthew Jones.
WOMEN'S INDOOR LEAGUE
Tenby's Famous Pound Shop Ladies' two indoor teams maintained their consistency in the second leg of the Pembrokeshire Women's Indoor League. Neither of the teams conceded a goal in the five matches played, with the A team registered a good 2-0 win against the enthusiastic Carmarthen team.
Tenby A 0 Tenby B 0: This was a competitive match between the club's two teams and although the A team was expected to win, the efforts of Angela Nicholls in goal and her hard-working colleagues kept Nicola Aston and Imelde Rossi at bay to gain a well-earned point for the B team.
Tenby A 0 Goodwick OAP 0: Tenby's potential to score was restricted by a hard-working Goodwick side, and as Tenby took the attack to their opponents, they had to be careful not to concede goals in any counter-attacks. Sally James saw plenty of the ball in the central defensive position and distributed it well to Imelde Rossi who ran well down the left, and to Nicola Aston in her familiar wide right position who tried hard to get a good angle to shoot from. Tenby's attacking initiative, plus a higher work rate than last week, gained a valuable point against a team who can score goals in this competition.
Tenby B 0 Carmarthen 0: Tenby paid respect to this Carmarthen side which has improved as the tournament has carried on, but still approached the game in a positive manner. The danger, as ever, was committing too many players to attack, but Hazel Sawyer and Ani Nicholls spotted the danger of counter-attacks quickly to get the ball quickly back to Angela Nicholls who distributed it skilfully. Cally Roberts and Clare Dooley ran well at the front for Tenby, but they generally found the route to goal blocked or that the Carmarthen goalkeeper was able to make some timely saves. Tenby were slightly disappointed that they could not win this game.
Tenby B 0 Saundersfoot Bees 0: This was one of the best matches of the afternoon between players who know each other's play well. Hazel Sawyer and Ani Nicholls stretched the play well for Tenby and only a desperate tackle on Clare Dooley prevented a real goal-scoring opportunity. Fitness played a part in gaining a point in this competitive match, when Cally Roberts ran tirelessly, but both sides refused to concede a goal right to the final whistle to produce an interesting contest.
Tenby A 2 Carmarthen 0: Tenby A, although a player short, continued to play their attacking football, with Imelde Rossi doing wonders down the left, and with Nicola Aston enjoying a little more space than in the previous match, some goals looked likely. Two good goals from around the edge of the goal area by Nicola Aston gave Tenby a lead their play deserved, and when Carmarthen fought back, the covering of Sally James at the back and the safe handling of Michaela Bevan in goal kept Tenby well in front to gain a good win.
GIRLS' INDOOR LEAGUE
The girls' indoor league started again last Sunday, with three Tenby sides playing.
Under 12s: Tenby As met new side Prendergast in a match which they won 3-0. The Tenby goals were scored by Danielle Jones, Joanna Rowe and Jade Manning. Jodie Fecci made some important saves in goal and captain Jenna Wright was as solid as ever in defence. In their second game they played Neyland Athletic which they won comfortably 7-0, with Jodie scoring three, Jenna two and Joanna and Danielle one each.
Tenby's newest side, the Seasiders, played their first competitive matches and they met a strong Pembroke Boro side. They lost 3-1, but it was a good performance in a new environment.
Taylor Field-Thomas played very well in goal, Lucia Evans looked comfortable as a central defender and Lowri Lewis competed well in midfield. Elena Cicotti was the single striker and she ran well up front.
Their second match was against an experienced Goodwick side and Elena had a superb game in goal.
With only four available players, the girls all played well and it looks very promising for the future matches.
Tenby A: Jenna Wright (capt.), Danielle Jones, Jade Manning, Joanna Rowe, Jodie Fecci.
Tenby Seasiders: Taylor Field-Thomas, Elena Cicotti, Lowri Lewis, Lucia Evans.
Under 14s: The Under 14s squad were due to play two matches, but unfortunately St. David's were unavailable and they ended up playing a friendly against Pembroke Boro Under 14s.
Squad: Kaylie Davies, Penny Young, Rebecca Bevan, Liz Nicholas, Annie Davies, Lauren Wright.
Next week sees all three of Tenby's Under 12 sides in action.
Any girls wishing to join the teams should show up at Monday training sessions 6-7 pm.
Thanks to the parents for providing transport and their support.
TENBY U10s 8
MERLINS BRIDGE B U10s 0
Tenby U10s, playing their first game of the new year, kicked off and went straight into an attacking mode, with Daryl Mansbridge scoring after only two minutes.
Tenby continued to go forward at every opportunity, with Daryl hitting the net again from a Lloyd Thomas through ball.
Tenby were now playing good passing football and they grabbed a third from Mickey Robins.
Merlins Bridge could not contain the Tenby attacks and a fourth goal came with Lloyd scoring after some lovely interpassing. Within a minute, Mickey made it five.
Tenby's defence had little to do, but when called upon, Cerith David and Lewis covered and tackled well, leaving Stephen Phillips in goal a pedestrian.
Just before the half-time whistle, Ianto Griffiths broke down the left and fired an unstoppable shot into the net, giving the goalie no chance.
The second half saw Stephen come off feeling very cold and being replaced by Henry Lawrence, who has obviously been watching Bartez too much as he stood on halfway most of the time!
Tenby seemed to take their foot off the pedal and allowed the Bridge to get into the game, but still managed to set up good attacks, with Sam Ormond going close on one occasion and Tom Nicholas scoring an another to make it seven.
The Bridge attacked Tenby's goal a lot more and it took a great sliding tackle from Henry, who was still outside his area, to prevent them scoring.
In the final minute of the game, Tenby won a corner and as the ball came into the area there was Daryl to head it in for his hat-trick - a great birthday present for next day Daryl!
Well played lads.
