CLARBESTON ROAD U12s 4

TENBY U12s 1

The Picnic Basket sponsored Tenby Under 12s met top of the table Clarbeston Road. Sensing that it would be a tough match, Tenby were ready for anything.

Although Tenby had a lot of the ball, missed chances meant that Clarbeston opened the scoring.

They went 2-0 up in no time at all, due to poor marking and tackling by Tenby, while at the other end chances went begging.

Sam Christopher and Guto Griffiths ran on well to balls supplied by the Tenby midfield, but the Clarbeston 'keeper was very sharp.

However, the eventual breakthrough came with Griffiths, combining with Billy Vaughan to put Christopher away with only the 'keeper to beat.

Tenby equalised soon afterwards only for the goal to be disallowed for a dubious offside decision.

This decision affected the Tenby boys and their composure cracked, leaving only Aaron Goldsmith a shining example of how to carry on playing in any situation.

After half time Clarbeston scored again, even though the offside flag was up.

The linesman was over ruled and the Tenby moral sank even lower.

Several Tenby corners went close, but it was not to be Tenby's day, with Clarbeston scoring again to make it 4-1 at the final whistle.

Kurt Smith had a fine game at left back for Tenby, but this was a poor team performance. The Boys must pick themselves up for their next match.

Thanks are expressed to Mickey Lloyd for running the line.

Tenby fielded: Richard Thomas, Scott Helmich, Joe Lewis, Richard Jones, Billy Vaughan (capt.), Guto Griffiths, Sam Christopher, Aaron Goldsmith, Kurt Smith, Jordan Lloyd, Gavin Kinsey.

TEMPLETON U10s nil

Tenby Under 10s played host to Templeton Under 10s at home looking forward to keeping their unbeaten record intact.

Fielding several new players, the homesters also changed the shape of the team to ensure rotation of the strong Tenby squad.

The match started and only two minutes has passed when Michael Robins fired Tenby into the lead.

Play was flowing from end to end and it was only a matter of time before there was another goal. It came from Tenby with Billy Davies crossing the ball for Mikie to pick up his second of the game.

Six minutes before half time , changes were made with Brad, Lloyd and Henry coming on for Carl, Cerith and Mikie - a short rest for the warriors!

Lloyd was straight into the game and soon made it three goals with an excellent 20 yard volley to end the first half.

The break saw more tactical changes with Henry, Lloyd and Sam rested.

The defence of Brad, Cerith and Carl Lewis coped admirably with every Templeton attack, giving Lewis very little to do in goal again.

Billy Davies, Rhys Houson and David Thomas rocked the Templeton defence with their fine midfield attacking play.

Mikie Robins, back on for the second half, completed his hat-trick with a well taken goal to make it 4-0.

With 10 minutes to go, more tactical changes were made with David, Billy and Rhys all coming off after giving their all and Henry, Lloyd and Sam replacing them.

Lloyd and Henry immediately combined to create a chance for Lloyd to score Tenby's fifth and his second.

Templeton had battled like Trojans all game, but were now looking tired.

Tenby capitalised on this and, after some good attacking play, Sam Ormond scored number six just before the final whistle.

Another excellent win from the boys makes sure that Remi is still smiling!

Thanks are expressed to parents for their continuing support.

SAUNDERSFOOT LADIES 2

TENBY LADIES 2

Tenby Ladies could only manage to field 10 players due to illness and injury in this local derby match against a formidable Saundersfoot side who have just recently won the Pembrokeshire 2000 Cup.

The game started off at a blistering pace, with both sides eager to dominate.

Selina Morgan ran well as Tenby's single front runner and Nicola Aston had plenty of the ball as most of the play was down the right hand side.

Sian Bennett and Emma Rowell kept the Tenby defence busy and Carrie Slack, Imelde Rossi, Hazel Sawyer and Angela Nicholls all had to pull together to check the Saundersfoot attack.

Denise Powell looked safe in goal until Saundersfoot were given a penalty which Lorraine Henton converted.

This was the signal for Tenby to pile on more pressure while also keeping out Saundersfoot's attacks.

Ani Nicholls and Cally Roberts tackled well in midfield, with Michaela Bevan working well on the left.

Aston made several good runs on the right but Ali Brace was on form in the Saundersfoot goal.

Tenby had chances in the first half, but they failed to convert, leaving the score at 1-0 at the break.

The second half saw a more determined Tenby side and they almost equalised straight from the kick off.

The side tackled well and created several more scoring opportunities before winning a corner.

Aston scored directly from this, making the game very exciting.

A dubious second penalty decision against Tenby saw Henton score again from the spot.

With 10 minutes to go Tenby were awarded a penalty after Morgan was brought down from behind.

Powell, the Tenby 'keeper, blazed the ball past Brace to equalise, much to the delight of the Tenby supporters.

Both sides played out the last 10 minutes with desperate defending and, at the end of the day 2-2 was a fair result.

Thanks are expressed to Huw (Four Seasons) for the half-time oranges.

Tenby: Denise Powell (capt.), Angela Nicholls, Imelde Rossi, Carrie Slack, Cally Roberts, Ani Nicholls, Nicola Aston, Michaela Bevan, Selina Morgan, Hazel Sawyer.

CAMROSE U13s 2

TENBY U13s 6

The Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions sponsored Under 13s travelled to Camrose hoping to make amends for their defeat last week.

Tenby soaked up some early pressure using the wings well in attempting to settle in and find their pattern.

Tenby probed with thoughtful incisive play from Matthew Jones and Jack Lawrence. Ashley Murdock was also evolved adding some vigour to the midfield effort.

Oliver Morgan, David Saunders, Ieuan Rowell and Sam Davies put in some strong tackles and had good defensive cohesion, holding the line and looking to get forward at every opportunity.

A through ball of quality from Jones found Jamie Robinson who thundered the opening goal for Tenby past the Camrose 'keeper.

Mathew Fleming, following good work from Jones, finished clinically with a low right foot shot, rifled into the far corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Moments later Tenby again came close with Damien Water's going through on loose Camrose back play.

Jones started a move with a super ball to Fleming on the right wing and was there to finish the move but the bounce of the ball evaded his thrust on goal.

Camrose threatened little but did have a speculative effort which unfortunately for them hit the crossbar. Tenby immediately replied with further pressure on the Camrose goal.

Camrose fired over, again on the break.

Robinson helped calm Tenby nerves with a flighted shot which gave the keeper no chance, to make it 3-0.

Strength on the ball and persistence gave Robinson his hat trick with another delightful strike low to the right hand corner to make it 4-0.

Camrose pressed, desperate for a goal, but Tenby resisted in numbers with Danny Harris rarely called up to clear.

Tenby closed the half with further pressure on the Camrose goal.

Into the second half and Tenby opened brightly with some incisive through balls. However, with the Tenby defence exposed, Camrose managed to open their account with a nicely taken goal. This seemed to galvanise Camrose and they reduced their deficit further with another well-taken goal to make it 4-2.

Tenby responded with Robinson again well to the fore, Mark Davies came on for Sam, neatly benefiting from Robinson's strength and persistence.

Pressure from Mark Davies and coolness under pressure from the 'on fire' Robinson saw Tenby extend their lead with a superb Mathew Fleming shot, to make it 5-2.

Ben Messenger came on for Ieuan Rowell and Tenby continued to pressure the Camrose goal with Tenby's resolute defence coping with the odd Camrose breakout.

Good work from Tenby's midfield, with Jones and Damien Walters prominent, saw Tenby further increase their lead with another incisive move, Fleming scoring after working a "one two" with the effervescent Matthew Ginger Jones.

Tenby banished last weeks Herbie blues with a good team performance running out worthy winners with two hat-trick heroes in Robinson and Fleming.

Once again a big thanks to parents for their continuous support and helping with the transport.

Tenby team: Danny Harris, Ieuan Rowell, David Saunders, Sam Davies, Oliver Morgan, Matthew Fleming, Jack Lawrence, Matthew Jones, Jamie Robinson, Damian Walters, Ben Messenger, Ashley Murdock, Mark Davies.

Milford United 3

Tenby 3

Disappointments come in different disguises and this one came 'Clouseau Style'. It was a comedy of errors from start to finish.

Sometimes you have a gut feeling, before kick-off, that today is not going to be your day. During the warm up attitudes were sloppy and some players sensed a difficult 90 minutes.

From the start Milford attacked, giving no Tenby player a moment to dwell on the ball.

Without regular 'keeper Dewi Davis, Tenby had been force to use reserve 'keeper Ryan Lawrence, thus losing the only natural left sided player in the side.

Within the opening 15 minutes the back four, who were in disarray, let the nippy Milford striker through to smash the ball past helpless 'keeper Lawrence.

Play was to sway back and forth, for the entire first half. Tenby was awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Steve Harlow deftly chipped the ball to the enduring Neil Finlay, to head into the Milford net.

There was no time to celebrate the equaliser as a strong Milford midfield penetrated in and around the box. Once again the quicksilver Edwards took the ball to the sideline, where he neatly turned and left Meyrick in his wake. The route to goal was unhindered and he neatly slotted his second.

Tenby fell under a barrage of forward fire from the Milford front line and, had it not been for the heroics of the Tenby 'keeper, they could well have been three or four goals down by half time.

But it was against the run of play that Tenby grabbed both the equaliser and then the goal to take them into the lead.

Scott Mclaughlin grabbed the equaliser with an individual piece of skill and a superb finish, while Hanlon fired a deflected free kick into the back of the net.

There was a lot to be said at half-time and this was one Tenby band playing a bitter sweet symphony.

The second half started positively with Mclaughlin beating his man down the line and centring for the unfortunately late Luke Lawrence to put a toe to it. This could have been enough to kill off Milford, but seeking another point for the season they didn't take long to equalise and grab themselves a well deserved draw.

This could have, and probably should have been a loss for Tenby. With all players under achieving the only player to come out of the game with any sort of credit was 'keeper Ryan Lawrence. Tenby were hoping for a win and this result should be seen only as a set back. With only the second away game of the season, the watching management team will be hoping that the side will travel more successfully in the future.
