From Peaky Blinders to Pirates of the Caribbean…entrants came far and wide to play their part in the annual Tenby Firefighters Carnival on Wednesday, writes Jack Simpson.

The carnival parade has always played a special part in Tenby’s long history.

However this year was an even special one, as the town celebrated 100 years of the carnival, prompting scenes on the streets.

Entrants came from all walks of life joining the parade, including - Superheroes, Hollywood and Disney stars and there was even a Tenby Circus welcomed.

Carnival fever burst into the town during the morning as Tenby Fire Service opened the doors for people to see what goes on in the Fire Station

There was also demonstrations and rides for people to enjoy.

The carnival parade, with the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Tony Brown also in attendance, featured a high number of floats and fancy dress walkers, who marched through the town to the beat of the Samba Doc band, making their way from the railway station through to Tudor Square where the ‘wet zone’ showdown took place!

Tenby firefighters deployed their hoses in a water battle with some of the other floats, making it a wet and wild afternoon in the seaside resort.

Following this, it was down to the harbour for the prize giving ceremony where the winners of the carnival classes were announced.

The judges for the floats were the Hodder Family and judging the walking classes were the Sutton Family.

After the prize giving ceremony there was an ‘After Party’ at Tenby House, where participants and firefighters themselves could relax and reflect on another great event for the town.

Once again, the main recipient of the money raised by Tenby’s dedicated band of firefighters during the course of the day will be the Firefighters Charity.

Walking Classes

Under 3s - 1st: Goldielocks (Anabel Birt); 2nd: Save our seas (Evangeline Paxton); 3rd place: Larry the Lobster (Ennis Watkins-Wicks).

Under 7s - 1st: By order of the Peaky Blinders (Tate Thomas); 2nd: Ice-cream man (Samuel Fecci); 3rd: Circus (Hallie Paxton).

Under 11s - 1st: Tenby Pensioners (Neve Paxton, Isabelle Paxton); 2nd: Flintstones (Blake Ryder, Ruben Thomas, Jack Henson); 3rd: Tenby Beach Babe (Ava Odley).

Adults - 1st: The Chase (Jayne Paxton); 2nd: Naked Chef and Lady Gaga (Marina Haynes, Cliff Hayes); 3rd: The Lion King (Jessica Page, Emily Page, Jayden Staples, Lacey Staples, Scarlet Jackson, Natasha/ Allison)

Paxton trophy best overall: Tenby Pensioners.

Float Classes

Best Decorated Float - 1st: Rio Brazil; 2nd: Toy Story; 3rd: Tenby AFC U8s - Firefighters.

Best Charity Float: Tenby AFC Under 13s.

Best Overall Float and the Brian Hodder Trophy: Let’s go to the movies (Cinema Float).
