Tenby Basketball Club played their first match of the season in the West Wales League last Thursday at Tenby Leisure Centre. They were playing against a Swansea team that had swept all before them last season. The match swayed back and forth for most of the first half, with Swansea going into a seven-point lead just before half-time. Tenby came back strongly at the start of the second half and went into a small lead. Again, the match went back and forth right up to the final whistle. Tenby were leading by two points with 10 seconds to go, with Swansea having two free shots. They missed the first and scored the second. Tenby then had possession, ran the clock down and won by one point, 52-51. It was good to see some of the Tenby stalwarts over the last number of years returning, to add experience to a very young side. Outstanding for Tenby was David Rees, who had the complete all-round game. David Ayers, Hywel and Rhys Bromby, Aron Torok, Scott Ashman and Paul Tasker rebounded really well, both in attack and defence. Don Griffiths brought the ball up well and Adam Goy showed glimpses of his shooting ability, allied with a great defensive game. Youngsters Jamie Nicholas and Joe Miller also played very well in a tough game. Training is at Tenby Leisure Centre on Thursday, 7 - 8 pm. All new and old members are more than welcome to attend. Home games coming up: Thursday, October 21 - Aberystwyth; Thursday, November 4 -Preseli.
