Tenby and District Brass Band started their summer programme with a very special event on Saturday, May 19.
The venue was the lovely setting of St. Mary's Church, Carew, the occasion was the wedding of the band's conductor Robert Thompson to Miss Julian Rhiannon Smith.
Whilst the guests were arriving, they were entertained by the Tenby band playing a selection of pieces including Barnard Castle, The Old Gumby Cat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Young Amedeus.
As the bride arrived the sounds of Purcell's Trumpet Tune greeted her. The hymns Guide Me O Though Great Jehovah and O Father All Creating were sung with band accompaniment.
During the signing of the register the Tenby and District Brass Band played a very moving arrangement of 'Ar hyd y nos' by Gordon Langford.
The Recessional was the Coronation March from 'Le Prophet' by Meyerbeer.
Best man at the wedding was the son of the groom, Neil Thompson, who had taken a day off from playing the trombone in the London Palladium orchestra, currently staging The King and I. Neil's wife, Jane, herself an accomplished brass player, acted as guest conductor for the day.
After the ceremony a reception was held at the Holyland Hotel, Pembroke.
The Tenby and District Brass Band are pleased to welcome back into the band Christine Bevan (nee Day). Christine was one of the original players in the 1980s. Welcome back Christine.
The Tenby and District Brass Band rehearse at the Park House Court, Narberth Road, Tenby, on Tuesdays at 7 pm. All brass players will be made most welcome.
