At the general committee meeting at St. Teilo's last Friday evening, it was good to welcome our parliamentary candidate, Delyth Evans, and chair of the constituency, Jane Rineckles, who opened the meeting by welcoming members from all over the constituency. This meeting superceded our usual Saturday morning April branch meeting. After the minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed, there was an update on the Health Service in Pembrokeshire, particularly about the decision of the Hywel Dda Trust. The discussion, was wide-ranging and at times many questions were asked and debated upon. Mrs. Joyce Watson AM, our Regional representative, was present, and gave detailed information about exchanges between herself, Rebecca Evans AM and the minister, Prof Mark Drakeford. There was great concern about the loss of the SCBU and the threat to paediatrics at Withybush and Joyce answered plainly and fully. She and Rebecca have a further meeting, with the chair and secretary of the constituency party, and others, with the minister this week. Joyce went on to give details of the visit of the First Minister, Carwyn Jones, to the constituency to meet party members on May 9. Members wanting details should contact the secretary or Bryn. After the treasurer's report, the prospective parliamentary candidate, Delyth, spoke about her ongoing campaign, in getting to know the people of the constituency and meeting employers and business leaders. She has had a tabloid printed and many hundreds have already been distributed in other areas of the constituency. Further help in delivering the tabloid would be appreciated, especially in Pembroke on May 6 and 7. Rob will be attending our next branch meeting on May 10 when he will be giving further information about Delyth's campaign and asking for our branch to help with delivery of her publications. Jane confirmed that her garden party will be held as a fund-raising event on June 22. Please put the date in your diaries and give Jane support. The date of the next general committee meeting will be May 16, at 7.30 pm, in Narberth. The date of our next branch meeting is Saturday, May 10, at 11 am.
