The last Wednesday in October was the last Ladies Day of the year and it was a most enjoyable occasion.

Speaker for the morning was Tom Peake, who gave a slide presentation of his career in the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and diving in the Indian Ocean. Great interest was shown by the large number present and nobody begrudged Tom swimming with sharks.

Once again Margaret put on a superb buffet and was roundly congratulated by all present, with people saying that they are looking forward to the next one. Margaret says that it will probably be a wine and cheese affair, as they haven't had one for some time.

Next Ladies Day will be at the end of April 2009.

The first meeting in November was well attended and the president was in full throttle with his opening jokes and quotes. The anniversary boy for the day was Bert Barnikel, who was congratulated on his coming birthday.

The secretary reported on his activities towards the Christmas Lunch on December 5. President Arthur Squibbs was to lay the wreath at the war memorial on behalf of the club.

Speaker for the morning was the vice-president, Peter Durdin, who spoke about his childhood during World War Two. Being only 12 at the start of the war and living on the outskirts of London, he was an evacuee. After a year of the phoney war, he returned to his home just in time for the London Blitz. Very interesting real life adventures, with more to come from other members no doubt.

The next meeting is on November 19 when speaker will be the president, Arthur Squibbs, who has told members he has no idea what to talk about. Why not join with them for the morning and find out what he has to say. Ring Lew Day on 844633 for more information.
