With a full house for the morning, the meeting got off to a lively start. The president welcomed back Geof White to the fold, after an absence of a few weeks, and also Brian McMahon, who had been missing for a few meetings, but seemed uncertain of the reason why. Oh dear, is it the onset of old age Brian? Surely not in such a youngster. Anniversary boy for the morning was Tony Webster, who was congratulated by all. The president said that the trip to Brecon was on and that there were still a few seats left to fill. For anyone interested, the trip is on July 30 and you can contact Lew Day on 844633 for further information. With the cost of fuel so high, it could limit any future trips, so the club should make the most of this one while they can. Speaker for the morning was Ron Hurlow and his talk was about the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. The memorial was started in 1994 and had a grant of £1.8 million pounds which was match funded by 154 different organisations and charities. It covers an area of 150 acres and contains 50,000 trees and 130 memorials. It is too far to visit in one day and the president thought that it would make a good overnight trip for the future, with a visit to nearby Lichfield Cathedral included. Thank you, Ron, for another well rounded talk. The next meeting is on July 2 when speaker will be Darrel John, who will also be acting secretary and newspaper correspondent for the day. A busy man indeed!
