Once again there was a smaller number of members present at the start of the first meeting in December. President Tony Webster thinks it is the lure of the Christmas shopping that is keeping people away. From the groans of the members present, I am not so sure (writes L.D.). The secretary reported that there were 45 booked for the Christmas Lunch and the main guest is the president of Tenby Rotary Club. Speaker for the morning was Ron Hurlow and once again he surprised us with his choice of subject. As a youngster he was afflicted with a bad stammer which seemed to affect his early school days, but during the time of his spell on National Service he was able to master it and become the fluent speaker that we know today. It seems that one in every 10 males are afflicted to some degree. Thank you, Ron, for a thought-provoking 10 minutes and from the way in which the other members joined in the question time, all seemed to enjoy it. The secretary will provide the president with a list of subjects that have been introduced over his year in office in time for next month's AGM. The next meeting is on December 19 when we hold a social morning, so come armed with your past Christmas experiences. Margaret will supply us with mince and apple pies, plus sausage rolls, and there will be a free raffle draw. For more information, call Lew Day on 844633.
