Last Friday, the Fourcroft Hotel, Tenby, was once again the setting for the Annual Constituency Dinner of the Labour Party (see news item pictures). A fullhouse dining room of members and supporters enjoyed an excellent meal served by the Fourcroft's well-trained staff. Chairman Tony Wales welcomed Kevin Brennan MP, the guest speaker, who performs an important role in Gordo Brown's new team, as Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. His speech was both informative and amusing, and greatly enjoyed by his audience. He congratulated Nick Ainger on being an MP who was both highly respected as well as being liked, an unusual combination in Westminster. Nick Ainger MP spoke with his usual enthusiasm. He praised Will Rees, Pembroke Dock's youngest member for his keen participation in local politics, remembering that Will wasn't born when Margaret Thatcher left politics! He thanked Marjorie Bevan for, yet again, organising that evening's excellent event. Chairman Tony Wales presented her with a bouquet of flowers. Raffle prizes were donated by: Philip Evans - Taster Therapy at Celtic Haven Spa, won by Madeleine Bland, of Milton; Richard and Eileen Swinger - a shopping voucher for No. 47 High Street, Narberth, won by a Narberth member; Duncan and Audrey Hilling - a magnum of sparkling wine, won by Eilleen Wall, of Tenby; Betty Hibbits' special organic chocolates and Nick Ainger MP's House of Commons claret, won by two other lucky persons. It was midnight before the last guests made their way home. Marjorie has now printed the calendar of events for 2008. She gave special advance notice of Saturday morning, February 16, at 11.30 am, when Tyrone O'Sullivan, the founder of the Miner's Co-operative at the Tower Colliery, will speak at St. Teilo's Church Hall (opposite the Five Arches), in Tenby. A warm welcome is extended to everyone who would like to listen to this charismatic figure and be reminded what a Welsh orator can sound like! The Tower Colliery closes for coal production today (Friday). For further information on events/membership etc., please call Marjorie on (01834) 842604.
