The February monthly meeting of the Tenby and District branch of the Labour Party took place at St. Teilo's Church Hall, Tenby. Members and supporters initially met for coffee, after which a short business meeting was chaired by Tony Wales. He commented on the good result of the November Saundersfoot Quiz Night, also the AGM and the Prize Draw in December, followed by the successful Constituency Dinner, held at the Fourcroft Hotel on January 19, when the well-known political figure and human rights campaigner, Ann Clwyd MP, was the guest speaker. The event was also attended by Nick Ainger MP and his wife Sally, Christine Gwyther AM, Labour List candidate Alun Davies, County Clr. Sue Perkins and Father McCready (Haverfordwest). Many members from across the constituency packed the Fourcroft that night. The chairman updated members on health provisions in Pembrokeshire. There was evidence to suggest that things were not moving forward. The Community Health Council were vigilant on all local issues. The Welsh Assembly Government was to be congratulated on the excellent new and upgraded facilities now available at the South Pembrokeshire New Hospital. Members were encouraged to attend the Open Day, as it was good for voters to see what was happening locally for the benefit of everyone. The chairman also commented on the successful environmental meeting held recently at Haverfordwest. The guest speaker was Alun Davies, Mid and West Wales Labour Party List candidate for the forthcoming Welsh Assembly election on May 3. A useful discussion took place and many members had questions on transport and social housing. The chairman thanked Alun Davies for his visit to Tenby and wished him well in the campaign ahead. Christine Gwyther AM also thanked the candidate and reiterated the difficulty of getting to know voters spread across such a wide region as Mid and West Wales. The next meeting will be a special dual event on Saturday, March 17, at St. Teilo's Church Hall, Tenby. The guest speaker at 11.30 am will be the Welsh Assembly Minister for the Environment, Planning and the Countryside, Carwyn Jones AM. There will be an interesting Bring and Buy Sale. It is hoped to welcome as many members, supporters and friends as possible to this very informative and enjoyable event. Contact Marjorie (01834) 842604 for more details.
