Last week's meeting at St. Florence Village Hall was a talk by two fellows of the Royal Photographic Society, Tony and Betty Rackham.

To start the evening, there was much jubilation over the club's win in the external competition, Pixels, last weekend.

Thirty-eight clubs from all over Wales and over the border took part, and Tenby came out the winners! There were also warm congratulations for Paul Richards, who has just gained his AWPF award, with a wonderful panel of prints of Kingfishers. These were on display for members to admire.

After all the excitement, everyone settled down to enjoy the Rackhams' tour of the Canary Islands, featuring especially the flora and fauna of the islands.

Beginning with La Parma, and the Caldera Crater, they showed a wonderful display of the flowers and scenery of the different islands. They moved on to La Gomera, then Tenerife, and lastly, Lanzarote. Everyone enjoyed the selection of photographs, and the unusual displays of Euphorbias, Lavenders, Echiums, and the unique Dragon Tree.

The influence of Cezar Manrique on his native island of Lanzarote, in its architecture and art, was illustrated with images of his house and garden. On that island, development is kept to the level of a palm tree, houses are painted white and doors and windows, green, and the Rackhams showed with their pictures, how that benefits the architecture of the locality.

The next meeting will be a talk on Kenya, by Les Loosemore ARPS, AWPF, on Thursday, November 20.
