Tenby and District Camera Club were delighted to welcome several new members at their meeting on Thursday. This week's talk was given by Chris Warren on the technicalities of studio lighting. Chris had prepared an excellent presentation on the wonders of studio lighting and the many variations that can be achieved. He brought along his own studio lights, umbrellas and backdrops. By setting them up in different ways and with the help of his son David, who made a very willing model, he showed how to use a modelling light and reflector, and then added a fill-in light to give a warmer effect. He also brought his computer and projector so hat his enthralled audience could see the picture he had just taken on the screen. After a break for refreshments, Chris then changed the lighting positions again, and this time, highlighted his model's hair from behind. He then invited members of the audience to have a go, suggesting three people working together would achieve more. He stressed the need to communicate with you model, and have friends or colleagues with you to help with moving the lights and reflectors. Everyone was delighted with the help and guidance given by Chris and appreciated all the work that he had put into his presentation. Members are looking forward to trying out the techniques learned on the next studio night which will be on April 24, 2008. The next meeting on October 11 will be a judging night for the first Open Competition, with judge Leigh Woolford AWPF. Entries for the Natural History Competition should be handed in that night. The club welcomes anyone interested in photography to join them whether a beginner or experienced photographer. The club meets at St. Florence Village Hall.
