The programme at last Friday's meeting, 'The Digital Magic Lantern Show', was presented by Linda and Edgar Gibbs. The pair are highly qualified audio-visual artists whose work is known internationally.

The programme, especially prepared for the Arts Club, consisted of a number of digital audio-visual sequences with a selection of topics.

After an introduction of local seascapes, menbers were taken to Tuscany and Pisa's 'Field of Miracles'. Here they saw outstanding views of the city's architecture, including the Campanile, the Baptistery, the Duomo and the famous leaning tower, as well as the red-tiled roofs of the houses, all set against an azure blue sky.

From Pisa, it was on to Venice with its ornate edifices and its waterways.

The next sequence was the World War One Trilogy. Part one depicted beautiful English countryside, a romantic peaceful setting. This was followed by 'The Black Chair' and its association with a young man, Ellis Evans, who became the poet Hedd Wyn who died at Passchendaele. The third sequence showed the grim horrors of war and its many consequences. It also linked up with the birth of Talbot House or Toc H in 1915.

In complete contrast, 'Into the Future' took members to Poitiers in France, where they had a glimpse of the ultimate in visual technology.

Travelling across the world they came to Australia and in particular Ayres Rock (Uluru), where Linda recited her own poem of the mystery of the rock and its special association with the Aborigine people.

Before leaving Australia, there was a visit to the beautiful Chinese Garden of Friendship in Sydney.

To finish their programme, Linda and Edgar brought the club back to their favourite place in Britain which they named 'Devon Delight', the seaside resort of Sidmouth and its ancient rock formations.

The whole presentation was a delight. The superb photography, Linda's commentary and her poetry, the accompanying music and the whole content of the programme were absolutely outstanding and fully appreciated by the audience. It was a very special evening.

This (Friday) evening, Dr. John Harrison will present his 'Musical Connections'. Non-members are very welcome at 8 pm in Church House.
