A mid-week match and an interesting beach match to catch up with this week. The early autumn enthusiasm remains with us whilst the weather is reasonable and it was nice to get back to our Wednesday escape from midweek television soaps (writes N.A.).

September 21, mid-week match: Ten anglers convened at the multi-storey for the re-commencement of the mid-week series and it was good to see a few of the members emerging from their summer hibernation. We are in between seasons and soon we should be seeing evidence of the winter fish mixed in with the summer species. Not just yet tho'.

However, the chaps found Tub Gurnards as well as the ubiquitous LSDs to trouble the scales, from venues such as Coppet Hall, Old Pier Steps, Fresh East and so on.

A 50 per cent weighing-in rate was perhaps a little low, but at the conclusion, Nev had found a near kilo LSD to nick first place.

1. Nev Andrews, LSD 0.904 kg; 2. Barry Taylor, bag 1.508 kg; 3. Karl Boyle, LSD 0.713 kg.

September 25, beach match, South Beach: Seven competitors registered for the next beach match on the South and there was a nice little surf coming in which did bode well. The venue can be slow at times, but we had set the match up in the hope of intercepting some Golden Grey Mullet which seem to be around in the autumn on Tenby beaches.

We were not completely disappointed and two were brought to the scales, together with Tub Gurnards and Flounders. At the weigh-in, it was clear that the two Mullet were good specimens, with Nev setting a new club record and very nearly a new benchmark for the Bristol Channel Federation, only missing out by 80g. Both fish have been entered for specimen certificates and were returned alive.

Results were: 1. Nev Andrews, Golden Grey Mullet 1.010 kg; 2. Steve Lewis, bag 1.073 kg; 3. Julian Davies, Flounder 0.435 kg.

The next match is on October 16 and is shown on the match list as a beach rover. Discussions at the recent South Beach match suggest that the anglers would prefer to go to Pendine that day, particularly as we have access to the beach as usual. The match will now take place from 2 to 6 pm, with anglers requested to be at the gates by 1.15 pm if they want to go up the beach.

After that, we have the annual inter-club match against Pembroke and District on October 23. This match will be at Llanstephan and will be fished to Pembroke's rules. Please be there by 1.15 pm so that we can refresh our memories of the 'rules of engagement'!

All members are welcome to attend the committee meetings held at the Ex-Servicemen's Club on the first Monday of each month. We also have the tide tables for 2012 and will shortly be compiling the match list for next year. Any members with suggestions for venues etc., please let Nev know.

Club information available at any time from Nev on 07500 417737.
