Matches and fishing remains a bit slow with the weather stubbornly refusing to settle properly. Although temperatures are rising nicely now, there's too much heavy rain around to give confidence that summer's here. However, a few nice fish have been caught and recorded with me. Matches first: Pendine match (actually fished at Ginst), May 18: Due to there being a major non-angling competition on Pendine, (the National Parakiting Association had booked the venue), this match took place at Ginst Point. Twelve anglers gave it a go, but the fish proved elusive again. Just three small Flats were recorded. Results: 1. John Nicholas (Flounder, 0.454 kg); 2. Nev Andrews (Flounder, 0.377 kg); 3. Mike Bradshaw (Flounder, 0.346 kg). Roving match, May 25: Six anglers booked in at the Information Centre, Kilgetty, in atrocious conditions, but with a forecast which promised a dry spell from 1 pm on. All fingers were crossed and rock marks near Manorbier and good old Mumbles Pier were the venues of choice. Barry and Nev chose Mumbles due to reports of plentiful Smoothounds. However, whilst the Manorbier crew got it right, May 25 must have been the only day in the last month when Smoothies didn't appear off Swansea! Ballan, Cuckoo and Corkwing Wrasse were recorded, together with the ubiquitous LSD and a Goby! Well done to Isobel Williams for braving the weather and weighing in a Corkwing Wrasse. Results: 1. Mike and Isobel Williams (53 points); 2. John and Idris Williams (39 points). Shore FoTM went to John Nicholas's good Bass in from Pendine, taking the scales round to 2.591kg (5 3/4lb). Boat FoTM went to the first proper Wrasse of the year by Barry Taylor, weighing 1.500 kg (3 1/ 4lb). Also weighing a nice Bass was Mike Dixon, recording a specimen of 1.850 kg, but was unfortunately pipped by John Nic. Next match is the Dinghy on June 8, fishing from 11 am to 8 pm.
