Results from recent matches are as follows: Mid-week match, December 19: The latest mid- week match saw seven anglers sign off the year in a biting easterly wind and with a few numb body parts! Just two whiting were brought to the scales, with his lordship, G. P. Thomas, grinning his way to first place (or was it wind again?). 1. G. P. Thomas, whiting 0,293 kg; 2. Barry (His Grace) Taylor, whiting 0.197 kg. Beach rover, December 30: The year concluded with much improved conditions on recent weeks and a surprising upturn in the fishing. It just goes to show that you never know with sea angling! Ten seniors and one junior met at the multi-storey car park and notes were swapped as to potential venues. The majority ventured to Freshwater East, with the minority choosing Coppet Hall. It was quiet at Coppet, but at Freshwater East, after a dead start, it went 'bananas'! Mike Williams took the spoils with an excellent beach caught bull huss of 4.86 kg (10lb in old money) and topped it off with some LSD and whiting. Well done Mike, who also captured the club aggregate with his total bag of 7.069 kg . 1. Mike Williams, bull huss 4.86 kg (which was weighed on the beach and returned alive immediately); 2. Idris Williams, bag 2.534 kg; 3. Roy Edge, LSD 0.912 kg. Thanks to Peter Cripps for returning the LSD alive to the sea on his way home. At the weigh-in, Julian Davies recorded the best flounder of the year at 0.943 kg. Another reminder for all members, the AGM will be on January 9 at the Ex-Servicemen's Club. Be aware that the membership secretary is on the case, so please ensure you are a paid up member on, or before, that date. The club has also confirmed that the return match on Clevedon Pier will take place on February 17. Arrangements for travel will be sorted a little later. The first match of 2008 is the Vice Presidents' Trophy, which is a flat fish takes preference match, taking place this Sunday. Booking-in is at the multi-storey and anglers can leave at 10.30 am and must return to the multi-storey by 3.30 pm. Fishing limits are the beaches between Telpyn Point and Giltar Point. Finally, the club extends its thanks to the Observer for so promptly printing its reports. A happy New Year to all and tight lines for 2008.
