PRESELI ANGEL

On a gloriously hot, but windy Bank Holiday, 18 members of Tenby Aces tackled the hilly Preseli Angel ride with a choice of either a 45 or 80-plus mile loop.

Some extremely good times were posted, notably Jon and Debbie Phillips with just over three hours for the short loop, and Steve Lewis with five hours 50 minutes for what was nearer 90 than 80 miles of non-stop climbs! Well done everyone who took part, especially those who had never ridden the distance before.

CARTEN 100

Last weekend saw another big event in the Aces calendar, with the annual Cardiff to Tenby 100-mile charity ride, which this year was held in aid of Ty Hafan.

Over 30 members of the Tenby Aces put their bikes on mini-buses and travelled down to Cardiff, leaving Tenby Leisure Centre at 4.30 am.

The ride set off from Cathedral Road at about 8 am and over 80 riders set off into the strong headwind that kept up all day!

There was a welcome coffee/breakfast stop near Port Talbot, lunch in Burry Port and afternoon tea in Red Roses, all of which were much appreciated by the riders as the day wore on.

Some of the speedier groups were back in Tenby by mid-afternoon, while the more leisurely ones came back around 7.30 pm after a long day in the saddle - pretty tired but very satisfied with their day.

All met up in the Crown Inn later for a few drinks and barbeque.

Congratulations to Alex Brace for being the youngest person to have completed the ride, not without some trauma as his dad Tim had fallen earlier in the day and suffered a dislocated finger. He was taken to hospital, but bravely rejoined the ride at Burry Port to complete the day. Well done to both the Braces!

In the picture is a group of Aces who were nearly all first-timers to this ride, some of whom had only ridden about 40 miles in one go before!

'HELP for HEROES'

Several of the Aces used the Carten as a practice run for their charity ride to be held late on Saturday, June 27, when they are going to ride all the way from Tenby to Cardiff and back again in one day which will be 200 miles! This will be a significant challenge and way out of all the riders comfort zones. Money collected will go to the 'Help for Heroes' charity which is to help our injured armed forces.

The Tenby and Cardiff Mayors are getting involved and hopefully exchanging scrolls which will be carried by the riders.

Donations can be made via Tenby Cycles on The Norton or the justgiving website http://www.justgiving.com/tenby-aces">http://www.justgiving.com/tenby-aces, or see any member of the Aces to donate.

Although this is not a race as the group will be riding together, you can guess the time it will take us - the nearest will win a family day out at Folly Farm.

If you have any fund-raising ideas and would like to support the cause, please email [email protected]">[email protected].

Tenby Aces and the Mayor's office ask for all of the Tenby community to get behind the fund raising.

They ask all clubs, associations, schools and the like to organise their own fund-raising event so that we can send one big cheque to 'Help for Heroes' from the whole of Tenby and not just Tenby Aces.
