The new cycling season is upon us, so the Tenby Aces are back on their bikes. Having worked hard over the winter months with turbo training sessions and some wet and cold weekend rides, the Aces were looking forward to testing their fitness on the hills of Pembrokeshire and Carmathenshire.

DAFFODIL CLASSIC

On St. David's Day, 14 members of Tenby Aces rode in the second annual Daffodil Classic Cyclo-Sportif run in aid of the Noah's Ark Appeal/Children's Hospital In Wales, billed as a 50-mile early spring challenge with a monster 20 per cent hill to start at the base of Pendine.

The ride took in several long climbs from Pendine north to Trelech and back through Llanboidy, St Clears and Laugharne, and about 80 riders took part from far and wide. The organisation was excellent, with tea and cakes at the feed stop and a bowl of pasta at the end, and even the weather was superb!

The youngest rider of the day was Alex Brace, aged 14, pictured coming in to the feed stop for a well-earned short rest. Well done Alex for completing the course in three hours.

TIME TRIALLING

March also marks the start of time trialling with the first event of the year having been run by Pembrokeshire Velos. There was a strong showing by the Aces and some decent times, considering the cold wet and windy morning.

The results for the 10-mile Neyland TT were as follows: Gareth Rees 28.21, Dave Hawkins 29.35, Paul Coleman 30.04, Tanis Hand 30.08, George Scott 31.01, Dan Coleman 31.52, Simon Scott 31.52 and Steffan Morris 34.09.

AGM

Just a reminder to all members that the AGM is tonight at Tenby Bowling Club from 7.30 pm.
