Tenby Youth travelled to Haverfordwest on Saturday to find them struggling for numbers. The game was eventually played with 12 players aside. The game was a little one-sided, with the Tenby team spreading the ball and running in a total of 10 tries. In the first half, John Sheasby opened the scoring with a crashing run after just three minutes, while Mathew Davies, playing on the wing, used all of his strength and pace to score two good tries. Rhys Thomas also dived over for an opportunist try after a rolling maul was stopped just short of the line, while Lourence Britts, always a reliable player, saw his hard work pay off with a well-worked try. Dan Colley impressed throughout the game with his speed and agility, making a number of breaks and unselfishly making well-timed passes for others to score, before opening up the defence to score himself. Another to get hius name on the scoresheet was Geoff Martin. Following instructions from his personal coach Lol, he took a tap-down at a lineout on the halfway line and broke several tackles to cross under the posts just on half-time. The second half scoring started with Rhys Thomas running the full length of the pitch to notch his second try. John Sheasby's strong running and aggressive hand-offs made him a difficult man to stop and he bagged his second try midway through the half. The gutsy Haverfordwest side took full advantage of the gaps that were beginning to show and scored two excellent tries which they converted. When everyone thought it was all over, and completely against the run of play, Nick Griffiths made a break at blistering pace and ran the full length of the pitch to score under the posts. A memorable sight. Aled Griffiths had an outstanding game at number 10, showing he has handling and distribution skills aplenty, while Dave Otten made a good combination with Dan in the centre, passing and tackling with agression. Other players in the squad who all played well were Johnathon Lewis, Craig Magee, Ross Makenzie, Marvin Thomas, Alex Jenkins and James Davies. The resounding cheers for the gallant Haverfordwest side from the Tenby team at the full-time whistle was an indication of the way this young side plays the game, something which all can be proud of. The Youth team are away at Crymych this weekend and have Pembroke Dock at home the following Saturday.
