Templeton YFC was founded in 1973 by Mr. Leslie John and Mrs. Nin Bowen, who wanted the young people of the village and surrounding area to have the benefit of learning new skills while being able to meet together in a safe environment.
Thirty-four young people attended that first meeting and the club is still meeting in the Church Hall today, with new members arriving annually.
Throughout its history, the club has had many hundreds of members, all have gained a new skill and many have excelled in various competitions within the county, Wales and at national level, with most successes historically coming from public speaking, stock judging and floral art.
Templeton YFC has produced one county president, two county chairmen, four Rally Queen attendants and four lucky members have been on international exchanges to America, New Zealand, Russia and Kenya.
The club as a whole has been on many exchanges throughout Great Britain, raised thousands of pounds for carity, and has won the County Rally on three occasions.
A celebratory dinner is being held on Friday, September 13, at Nantyffin Motel, Llandissilio, with the toast master being Mr. Tim Simons, the club's first chairman. Templeton YFC would like to see as many past/present members, advisory members, club leaders and parents there as possible to help celebrate this fantastic achievement, and to say thank you to all the people who have helped the club over the last four decades.
For more information on the dinner, please 'phone Jayne on 01834 860003 or Richard on 01834 891248.
