A South Pembrokeshire community has been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of a pensioner.

The body of eighty-four-year-old Margaret Mary Ford was discovered by police when they responded to a 999 call to her home in Templeton on Saturday night.

Mrs. Ford's son, 48-year-old Jarvis Edward Ford, of Aneddfa, West Lane, Templeton, has been charged with her murder.

He appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.

No pleas were entered and the case was transferred to Swansea Crown Court where he is due to appear again on Wednesday, May 27. He was remanded in custody.

County Councillor Elwyn Morse, who represents Narberth Rural on Pembrokeshire County Council, said the village was in shock following the tragedy.

"The village is saddened to hear of Mrs. Ford's death and shocked at the tragic circumstances in which she died," he told the Observer this week.

"Since moving with her son to Templeton some 18 months ago, Mrs. Ford had taken an active part in village life, attending Templeton Community Association's coffee mornings, day trips and village suppers with her son," he continued.

"She was only this week due to go on a trip to Newcastle Emlyn.

"She will be sadly missed by all who knew her."

A statement from Mrs. Ford's family, described her as a 'sweet and gentle lady with a sunny nature'.

"She was always considerate and kind to others," the statement said.

"She loved nature, poetry and her garden.

"Her death is a tragic loss and she is missed so much by her grieving family and wide circle of friends."

At the time of going to press, Mrs. Ford's funeral details had yet to be announced.
