A farming mad pupil at Templeton School has come up with an egg-cellent business idea!
Ten-year-old Rhodri Evans lives with his family and lots of pets on a smallholding and loves everything to do with the outdoors and farming, which includes looking after his ten chickens.
He recently came up with a business idea to supply his local village, neighbours and holiday makers with free range ‘egg-cellent eggs’ which are laid by his chickens.
“I look after the chickens, feeding them and making sure their house is clean, and that they remain healthy,” explained Rhodri.
“I also collect the eggs and then sell them to family and friends who visit, and also walk through our village knocking on doors, selling them.
“At the moment my chickens only produce eight or nine eggs a day and I never seem to have enough, so I’d like to look after more chickens, produce more eggs and make sure everyone who wants some can have some.
“My plan would be to make two or three large paddocks for my chickens, put a proper chicken coop in each area with plenty of space to scratch about.
“The area needs fencing with chicken wire and I would need more accessories such as water and feed bowls.
“I would also like to produce some ‘Egg-cellent Egg Company’ labels to put on my own egg boxes which will make my business look really good.
“I could then start an egg round every Saturday morning plus continue to set up shop from my mum’s car boot at school and at village events and parties.
“I may even have enough to have a shop in the gateway and supply local shops!” he added.
So far Rhodri has raised £665 towards his business project through his Crowdfunder webpage, and is aiming to reach the goal of £3,000.
