Two teams from Templeton School recently travelled to Pembroke Leisure Centre, to play in the first round of the 'Activate' Welsh Primary Schools Hockey Competition. Teams from Brynconin, Llanyllwydog, Narberth, Prendergast, Redhill and St. Oswalds schools joined them in an afternoon of hockey organised by Angela Miles (hockey development officer) and her team.

These eight teams competed on the day for the two places in the Zone final to be held in Fishguard on June 5.

Templeton 'A' won their first two games and drew the third, thus winning group two, with Brynconin as runners-up. In group one, Narberth won all three games to become winners of that group, with St. Oswalds as runners-up.

These four teams then competed for the two places in the Zone final. Narberth played Brynconin and Templeton 'A' played St. Oswalds to decide who would go forward. Both matches were closely contested, with all players getting tired after a long afternoon.

Brynconin shaded Narberth out with a single goal in the second half to progress to the next round.

The other game proved to be even closer, with both teams unable to score during normal and extra-time. This meant for the first time ever, the final place in the Zone final would be decided on penalty shots. During this very tense period, all players performed to the best of their ability, with Templeton 'A' winning one goal to nil and, therefore, taking their place in the Zone final in Fishguard on June 5.

Templeton 'B' team continue to impress, with the majority of players being from Years 3 and 4. They competed very well and were unlucky to lose their first game by one goal to nil. This inspired them for their next game against Llanyllwydog, which they won by two goals to nil. Unfortunately, in the third game, they lost to Narberth.

Many thanks, to all the parents who helped to transport the children to Pembroke and for supporting them throughout a very busy afternoon.
