Tavernspite School's girls' cricket team are one of the best in the country!

They have taken part in the Asda Kwik Cricket Girls National Final which took place at Headingley Cricket Ground last Wednesday.

The event was supported by two of the England women's team, Katherine Brunt and Sarah Taylor, who are fresh from retaining the Women's Ashes.

Tavernspite are now one of the top 15 primary schools in the whole country after they won the South Wales section of the competition.

The schools had all done very well to get to the national final of the second ever girls only competition.

The sides were split into four groups of four, with the winners progressing to the semi-finals. The teams of eight split into four pairs who each faced two overs each. Each wicket to fall was minus five runs.

In their group games, Mayfield Middle 247-1 lost to Tavernspite 261-3, while St. George Middle 241 lost to Tavernspite 283.

In the semi-finals, unfortunately, St. Alphege 242-2 beat Tavernspite 223-3.
