At St Florence, in the first round of the Tavernspite Garden Centre Alan Brown Cup, Manorbier's poor early season form continued. Manorbier won toss and chose to bat. Skipper Mike May and Neil Powling with 17 each had a steady start before Phil Lawrence with 16, Paul Oeppen with 15 and Justin Evans, who belted 22 quick runs, took total to 117. John Davies took three for 39, Richard Jones three for 32 and Tommy Roberts two for 18 as St. Florence bowled well under the conditions. In response, the experienced opener Peter Hall led the way with a chanceless innings of 65 not out, which included six 4s. The only other batsmen in double figures were Ben McDonnell and John Davies with 10 apiece. Manorbier did not help their cause as their bowlers sent down 17 wides in a total of 30 extras! Phil Kidney took 4 for 22 in his spell, but Peter Hall had a field day against some wayward bowling, and Fifth Division St. Florence were worthy winners against their Division Three opponents in an enjoyable good game of cup cricket.
