Last weekend, an 18-hole stableford was played on the Saturday. Gerald John and Simon Arthur both came in with 37 points, Gerald taking top spot with a better back nine. Third was Steve Wedlake with 36 points. Four 2s were recorded by Mel Neale, Richard Preece, Phil Catlin and Terry Whiston. On the Sunday, a Texas scramble was played in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness. Teams were of one lady and two gents, combining all their handicaps and using one-tenth of it. The conditions were blustery, with the odd few showers thrown in, but this did not deter the teams returning some very good scores. In third place with a nett 66 were Caroline Fletcher, Mike Allen and Giles Smith, second with a nett 65 were Jane Meyrick, John Shaw and Garfield Price and in first place with a nett 64 were Michaela Edwards, Pete Edwards and Garry Heesom - Pete taking some barracking for having first class knowledge of his greens. Some lovely food was enjoyed after the competition, and many thanks must go to Dorrit and her ladies for an excellent spread, Ken Badham for organising the event and he informed us all that in the region of £200 should be raised for a very worthy cause. In the junior section of the club, Daniel Edwards progressed to the matchplay final and now awaits the other semi-final contest between Sam Anderson and Nathan Lewis to see who he meets. Daniel played Greg Palin in his semi-final and after being three up after nine holes, closed the match out on the 14th, winning 5 and 4. Tomorrow (Saturday) is the September monthly medal. Tee-off times are at a premium due to four societies being played, so a phone call or a visit to the clubhouse is worthwhile to make sure of a booked time.
