Richard Davies saw the old year out in style, winning the End of Year romp on Saturday, December 27, with a fine score of 44 points, more than sufficient to capture a bottle of Scotch donated by Brian Cowley and to douse the spirits of the opposition. Gerald John and Meurig Evans each scored 38, Gerald taking second on countback.
James Maxwell, with 36 points, won the junior division prize of the box of golf balls and for good measure made the only two of the day as well. Ben Price was junior runner-up with 30 points.
The juniors were out again the next day in atrocious conditions for their delayed Christmas competition which had been carried over from the previous week. This was played over 12 holes and produced a tight finish with the first three all scoring 22 points. Thomas Burkat won on countback from Matthew McMann who pipped Luke Laidler for second.
Walter Witts needed to be in top form on Tuesday, December 30, as he racked up 38 points to win narrowly from Barry Thorne who finished with 37, as did Paul Griffith, with Barry taking second on countback.
Having completed the old year with a 44, and seeing his handicap cut two shots to 14 as a result, Richard Davies, presumably after an early night, defied gravity when scoring 41 off his new mark on New Year's Day. This easily won the seniors stableford which was surprisingly well attended. Most would appear to have done full justice to the night before, as the next best score was 34 by Roger Thompson, who takes nothing stronger than Ovaltine!
