Richard Davies won the second seasonal turkey trot on Saturday, December 6, but it was a close affair, with four golfers finishing within a shot of each other. The winner's 39 points was matched by Rob Evans, but Richard's superior back nine won him the bird. Gerald John's 38 was matched by Mike Ansell, with Gerald taking third place on countback. Mike and regular playing partner Ian Lawrence were the only players to make a two.
Danny Brown was on target for the midweek stableford on Tuesday, December 9. A very creditable 38-point haul won him first prize ahead of Paul Griffiths on 36 and Ivan Kirk on 34.
On Thursday, December 11, John Smith failed to score on two holes and still finished with 40 points to win for the second week running. John Bancroft was second with 35, just pipping Walter Witts for the runner-up spot on countback.
The entry list has been posted in the Pro's shop for the winter/spring league 2004, which commences on Saturday, January 10, and runs until Friday, April 3. The competition will be in two divisions and each golfer's best eight cards from 12 will count. In the event of a tie, the ninth best card will be used to determine the winners. Closing date for entries is Sunday, December 28.
There is plenty of golf scheduled at Trefloyne over the holiday. The Christmas Spirit competition will be held tomorrow (Saturday), and the End of Year competition is a week later, on Saturday, December 27. The new year kicks off with the Dormel trophy on Saturday, January 3.
The F. H. Gilman Junior Matchplay final was played in extremely cold conditions on Sunday, December 7, Nathan Lewis eventually winning a hard fought match against Ben Price by 3 and 2.
The Junior section are reminded that their Christmas competition will be held this Sunday, December 21, with tee times from 11 am.
