There was a splendid turnout on Saturday, May 31, for the Neil Thomas Memorial Cup. The trophy has been presented to the club by Steve Wedlake and Chris Hicks in memory of their good friend Neil, the Trefloyne vice-captain, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Gerald John was in fine form, finishing first of the 45 entrants with 40 points. Dean Rawlins was second with 38 and Steve Wedlake third with 37. There were eight 2s, including a pair by Mike Williams.

Dean Rawlins took his good form from the 'Neil Thomas' into the June monthly medal the next day, winning the Tiger division with net 76 (85-9). Ian Lawrence was second (92-11-81) and Meurig Evans third (95-11-84).

Gilroy Thomas won a poorly contested Rabbit division with net 74 (91-17), with Con Kearney second (107-22-85). To add to their joy, they each made a two and were the only players to do so.

His medal win has pushed Dean Rawlins into top spot in the Table of Merit. He now has 21 points. Next come Meurig Evans 19, Garfield Price 17 and Steve Wedlake 16.

Trefloyne Seniors survived some early setbacks when hosting St. David's Seniors on Thursday, June 5. Ivan Kirk and Roger Cryer went down 3 and 2 in the top game, and Graham Harrison and Terry Morris lost the next 2 and 1. The Trelfoyne revival was led by Dean Rawlins and Mel Beeley, and John Cliff and Graham Wharton, both pairs winning 2 and 1.

The next two games went to the wire. Mike Evans and Dennis Busby won one up, but with David Owen and B. Bradley losing one down the match was nicely balanced at 3-3. Ken Webster and John Bonar then halved their game, and another halved game, between Trevor Lewis and John Rolfe, and John Smith and Brian Norman (the latter helping out a short handed visiting side) left the teams even at 4-4. Fortunately for the hosts, Garfield Price and John Shaw enjoyed the best win of the day, 5 and 4, to leave Trefloyne the narrow victors, 5-4.

James Maxwell, Matthew McMann, Luke Laidler, Nathan Lewis and Ben Price were the first round winners in the Carl French Electronics Junior matchplay cup. Next up are games between Ben and Matthew, and Nathan and James, with Luke having a bye.

Those members playing in the singles knockout cups are reminded that the last day for the second round of the 'Laidler' is Tuesday, June 17; for the 'Wesley House' the last day is Thursday, June 19.
