Meurig Evans and John Chrinside emerged as the winners of their respective divisions of the eclectic competition which has been in progress since October. Meurig finished with a score of 55 to win the Tiger Division. Phil Catlin was second on 58 and Mel Neale, the only one of the leaders to actually improve his score in the last round, was third on 59.
There was a closer finish to the Rabbits Division. John Chirnside and Mike Williams had started the last round level on 52. John improved his score by two to finish on 50, just edging ahead of Mike who had managed a one shot improvement to finish on 51. Richard Preece was third on 53.
New member Dean Rawlins, playing off 11 and making his competition debut, won the turkey trot on Saturday, December 7. Playing very consistently, he notched up 41 points, winning by virtue of a better back nine than runner-up Mike Williams. Ivan Kirk was third with 49. Roger Cryer, Ivan Kirk and Mike Williams all scored twos - and all were made on the short 12th.
Leighton Gwyther held onto his lead to win a very competitive junior eclectic competition for the second successive year. He finished with a score of 54, winning on countback, having had a better back nine than Ashley Evans. Ashley had improved his score by four shots over the last round, passing Matthew McMann and Luke Laidler to claim the runner-up spot. Mathew finished third on 55 and Luke was fourth on 57. Nathan Lewis was fifth on 60.
Juniors are reminded that the competition for the Highfield Shield, sponsored by Terry Morris, will be held this Sunday, December 22. This will be followed by a Christmas buffet and the annual presentation ceremony, to which families of the players are invited.
Apart from the contest for the Highfield Shield, there will be a separate competition for the less experienced Juniors, as well as a putting competition. Something for everyone, no matter at what level of ability they are playing.
Dave McMann and his helpers are working tirelessly to make this a really worthwhile day for the Juniors and would appreciate a large turnout from golfers and families.
