Congratulations to Sue Shooter who brought some silverware back to Trefloyne after winning the prestigious Rhian Pearn Rosebowl at Neath Golf Club on August 28. A score of net 67 was enough for Sue to win this annual medal competition, and Trefloyne colleague Caroline Fletcher was close to the prizes as well, finishing one short of third place with a net 75.
Steve Wedlake ran away with the Tiger Chalice on Saturday, August 25, with his fine score of 40 points outdistancing Ian Lawrence, second with 34, and Roger Thompson, third with 33.
There was a much closer finish for the Hubbard Rabbits Trophy in which Chris Hicks prevailed on countback, with Meurig Evans second, both having played well for 39 points each. Ron Webber was third with 37. Brian Cowley and Gary Heesom each recorded a two.
Barrie Turner won the Tuesday stableford on August 28, with 37 points. Pat Corcoran was second on 34 and David Owen third with 32.
Roger Thompson played his finest round of golf two days too early when winning on Thursday, August 30. An astonishing run of birdies and pars meant he amassed 44 points (approximately a net 65) and brought a smile to his face, although this was quickly wiped out when the handicap committee promptly docked his handicap by two shots on the eve of the September monthly medal! Mel Beeley was second with 35, and three tied third with 32 each, Windsor Nicholas, Pat Corcoran and Mike Ansell.
It has been a disappointing couple of weeks for Alan Bale and Gary Haigh, beaten in both pairs semi-finals. They lost to Ian Lawrence and Mike Ansell in the Paddock Inn Pairs, and to Carl French and Chic Brown in the Bush House Pairs.
Runners-up in the Paddock Inn last year, 'Ansell and Gretel' have earned themselves another chance of lifting the trophy. Their opponents in the final will be Mel Beeley and Mel Neale, who beat Allan Gray and Ron Webber in the other semi.
In the Bush House final, French and Brown will take on Brian Cowley and Dave McMann who finished runners-up last year.
The last of Trefloyne's short holes to defy members' attempts at an ace has been conquered. Congratulations to George King who, on reaching the 16th green last Sunday week, had difficulty locating his ball before finding it in the hole!
Trefloyne Juniors played round four of their summer league on August 26. The best cards of the day were handed in by James Maxwell with 36, Simon Hilling 35, and Ashley Evans and Matthew McMann with 34 each.
Of those who have played all four rounds, James Maxwell has the best total with 139 points. Daniel Brace is second with 128, and tied for third are Matthew Birch and James Thomas each with 127.
The Juniors played a Medstab competition on August 28. This was won by Tom Hilling with 39 medstab points. James Maxwell was second with 43 and joint third, with 45 each, were Luke Laidler and James Thomas.
Nathan Lewis and Simon Hilling will contest the final of the F. H. Gilman Junior Matchplay Cup which will be played over finals weekend, September 15/16.
