Many of Trefloyne's best struggled to break the 100 mark when playing the monthly medal on June 2, in awkward, breezy conditions. It was those rabbits in the 16-24 division who coped best, and Bobby Windsor won that section with a very creditable net 69, with Allan Jones second on net 72, and Gary Haigh third with net 73. In the tiger division, for 0-15 handicaps, Brinley Hughes won with net 78. Ian Lawrence and Windsor Nicholas both had net 83, with Ian taking the runner-up spot on countback (last three holes). Carl French and Gary Haigh each registered a two.
The 'father and son' competition, a better ball stableford over 12 holes, was played on Sunday, June 3, in glorious conditions, which was just as well as most of the fathers spent the morning admiring the view, as nearly all the scoring was done by the youngsters.
Afterwards, the ladies laid on a superb barbeque, and a fine time was had by all.
Winners were Leighton Gwyther and Ian Lawrence, with 30 points. Nathan Lewis and Terry Morris were second with 29, and Simon Hilling and Mike Ansell third with 28.
There is a strong rumour that the Juniors now wish to challenge Trefloyne Seniors to a match, in which case Chic Brown and his Seniors team had better look out, such is the standard of golf being played by Dave McMann's junior section.
There was a small turnout for the Tuesday stableford on May 29, with Barry Thorns and Paul Griffiths sharing first place with 32. Mike Kemp won the Thursday contest on May 31 with 35 points. John Cook was second with 34 and Peter Scourfield, despite the recent savaging of his handicap, third with 33.
The next seven days are the most important in the Trefloyne Seniors calendar. Tomorrow they attempt to repeat last year's victory over the 'youngsters' in the annual Seniors v The Rest match. There are sure to be some frayed nerves coming down the 18th. Watch this space next week!
Next Thursday, June 14, is the occasion of the Trefloyne Seniors' Championship, for which the entry list is in the Pro's shop. Last year's winner was Roger Cryer, who is reportedly honing his game in readiness to defend the coveted title.
Other important forthcoming competitions at Trefloyne are the Kitson European Championship Qualifier, on Saturday, June 16, and the Cystic Fibrosis Charity Competition, held over the weekend of June 23/24.
