A Tenby man is taking the plunge next month to raise money for two worthy charities.

Thirty-year-old Daniel Murch, of 86 The Clicketts will be swimming to Caldey Island on Friday, August 10, to raise funds for the Tenby and District branch of Leukaemia Research and a home for ex-Servicemen with Combat Stress.

Weather permitting, Daniel, who was a keen swimmer in his youth, will be setting off from the back of Castle Hill at 10 am.

He will be escorted by a safety boat provided by Jim McGrath and Daniel's brother, Paul will be time keeper for the two-and-a-half mile challenge.

In the run-up to the swim, Daniel, who successfully swam to the monastic isle along with a group of local people in 1990, is training at Tenby Leisure Centre and is following a diet to try to lose a few pounds.

Daniel, who is studying for an Open University degree in Natural Science, has already raised approximately £100 and he is hoping that figure will grow even further, particularly as the two benefiting charities are close to his heart.

His father suffers from combat stress, his friend had aplastic anaemia and his uncle who suffered from leukaemia sadly passed away several years ago.

Anyone who would like to sponsor Daniel is asked to contact him on (01834) 845051.
