On a glorious Friday evening in Saundersfoot, Tenby Swifts entertained St. Davids for a tag evening. involving five junior teams.  The actual day started at around midday as car after car arrived to set-up their tents to camp down for the night.   The Swifts coaches and families all supplied their own barbecues for their teams it was a fantastic evening.  There are already talks about a pre-season game at St. Davids in August to kick-off the season which will hopefully be supported again by all the Swifts teams.    The Under 8s played two games and won both, the Under 9s and 10s also won both exciting games. The under 11s were unlucky to lose by one try, while the Under 12s won their game comfortably.  The main highlight of the evening was the women's tag game against Whitland ladies.  Tenby ladies have been practising once a week over the last three weeks and have made good progress.  The girls gave their all and all 17 girls had a game. Tenby's two try scorers were Karina Ebsworth and Annemarie Allen who both showed well in attack.  Praise must go to the Whitland ladies who showed how ladies rugby should be played - they played with great pace and awareness and ended up scoring nine tries.  The game was played in great spirit and was thoroughly enjoyed by all the girls.  Anyone who would like to come down and join in, they practice an the Saundersfoot playing field, 5.45 - 7 pm on a Thursday evening.  The emphasis is on having fun and keeping fit with no physical contact.  Tenby Swifts would like to thank Kenny Davies, of Pembrokeshire District Rugby, who came down to observe the Swifts playing and to referee the ladies' tag game.  Thanks to Roger and staff at the sports club who really looked after the Swifts; Mick Booth and Billy Swales for doing the barbecue for the Under 8s and spent most of the day setting it up and all night cooking; Hayley Scotcher for organising the food which was excellent, and was supplied by the butcher's in Tenby Market.  Thanks also go to the coaches who turned up with their teams and Neil Machin for stepping in to arrange the Under 12s team at the last minute.  The last game finished around 9 pm with everyone then making their way to the bar for a few well- deserved beers.  The campers then continued to party (very quietly) into the small hours and finished about 2.30, with Cath Millward getting all the campers to dance to Dancing Queen - cheers Cath!  Everyone had a superb time and we are trying to get more teams involved when the next one is arranged. Thank you to everyone who was involved. Tenby ladies are also looking to play other teams in the county - purely on a fun basis - and if any mothers from Pembroke, Pembroke Dock, Narberth or any other club would like to play, please contact Hayley Scotcher or Julie Williams at [email protected]">[email protected]
