Sir, If you're thinking of purchasing one of the million TV sets likely to be sold this Christmas, I'd like to remind readers to think digital when making your choice. The digital television switchover comes to Wales between summer 2009 and spring 2010. Digital UK urges anyone buying new TV equipment to look out for the 'digital tick' logo which identifies products ready for the switch to all-digital television. You don't have to buy a new TV set to enjoy digital television. Adding a set top box to your current TV will bring you the range of benefits of digital. That includes more channels, digital radio and interactive services. Your current video will also continue to work as well, as long as it's linked to a set top box, but you'll only be able to record the programme you're watching. And don't forget there's also the new generation of digital recorders available which means you'll never having to miss your favourite programmes. They can even pause live TV while you sit down to enjoy your turkey! So remember to ask your local retailer about digital switchover, or to find out when your part of Wales goes digital, visit the Digital UK postcode checker online (digitaluk.co.uk). You can also call our helpline (08456 50 50 50 or 08458 48 48 48 for the Welsh language service). We'll tell you everything you need to know, including what digital television options are available in your area. In the meantime, may I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
