Young swimmers from across the county made a splash at the recent Pembrokeshire Long Distance Championships.

Eight championship records were broken at the annual event held at Tenby Leisure Centre earlier this month.

Jemma Hurds from Tenby Dolphins took the record in the 1500m freestyle in the girls nine-10 year category, while Thomas Randall from Pembroke set a new record in the boys eight years 800m freestyle.

Nyle Lewis from Pembroke set a new record in the boys 11 years 800m freestyle and Daniel Thomas, also from Pembroke, set a new record in the boys 13-14 years 800m freestyle.

Hazel Fox from Tenby took the record in the girls 10 years 800m freestyle, Hannah Saunders took the record in the girls 12 years 800m freestyle, while Bethan Davie from Tenby took the record in girls 15 years+ 800m and 1,500m freestyle.

The annual championships covers 1,500 and 800 metre freestyle races for swimmers aged eight and over.

Event organiser Ann Adams said it had been another successful event.

"Eight records were broken and many swimmers took advantage of the opportunity to get a time at their chosen distance," she said.

"I'm delighted at their achievements and I'd like to thank all those who helped run the event."

The event was part funded by Barclays Bank with several bank staff members attending.
