The A team played first with captain Jamie Williams leading by example, seeming to be all phases of play.
Latymer were rocked backwards in the first few minutes of play, such was the ferocious tackling of Tenby, which is a trademark of the side and an important part of the coaching development of coaches Steve Williams and Tim Roberts.
The first of Tenby's tries began with a superb break by scrum-half Keifer Thompson who passed to No. 10 Jamie Williams, then fullback Matthew Davies who broke a tackle to free Joe Kidney, whose speed saw him run half the length of the pitch to score.
Latymer replied from the kick-off with a splendid try by their right-wing. This seemed to lift the Tenby side, with Joseph Morris and Yarrick Parker driving through the Latymer defence where quick ruck ball to Oliver Goldwait, then Jamie Robbins saw Keifer Thompson break two tackles to score a fine effort in the corner.
The match was superbly refereed by senior team manager Gethin Evans who allowed the game to flow.
The re-start saw Jack Baker make a fine charge upfield, taking out two Latymer tackles before popping the ball to Jamie Williams who weaved through the opposition to pass to Simon Stanford whose strong running saw him break a tackle and pass to the strong running Guto Griffiths who scored in the corner.
Finally, Matthew Davies, who had an excellent game, finished the scoring with a fine try.
Special thanks should go to Gethin Evans and Greg and Sally Davies for organising the fixture and making food for the players.
This is a superb Tenby Under 10s who played a very strong English side, with Tenby missing three key players in Patrick Roberts, Toby Smith and James Cridle. This side should go from strength to strength. Well done also to coaches Steve and Tim for the time and effort they put in coaching the Under 10s and 11s.
A presentation by both captains was made at the clubhouse where all had an enjoyable afternoon.
TENBY U9s (and friends)
v LATYMER PREP U10s
Tenby U9s now had the chance to prove they are a force to be reckoned with and with the assistance of some U10 exiles proved this was the case.
Latymer, in blue, fielded their second squad of U10s and from the off the game showed flair, commitment and, above all else, sportsmanship. The tackles from all of the Seasiders were felt by all watching from the touchlines.
The Griffiths duo of Guto and Ianto proved an excellent combination with strong running from 'big brother' and 'sledge hammer' tackles from Ianto. Mikey Robins was a welcome sight back in the squad with his massive tackles and impressive twisting attacking runs. Time after time he was supported by strong forward players such as Denny Paxton, Rob Fairly, Liam Watkins, Andrew Cooke (a definite future wing forward) and of course the main cylinder of the engine room, Daniel Gosnold, who played his best game to date.
The first-half was very close with toe-to-toe action throughout, with the lead eventually going to the visitors... which was very short-lived.
The Tenby captain for the day, Joseph Richards, took his opportunity and scored a marvellous individual try to level the scores and was instrumental in the second by passing to Guto who levelled the scores 2-2 by half-time.
After a quick water stop, the second-half continued in the same vein as the first, with end-to-end rugby.
Lucia Evans continued her strong approach to the game with several energetic attacks and some aggressive defensive play, with continual support from Rob Fairley and Leon Goddard. Leon yet again proved to be a worthy member of the team with good vision and ball handling skills.
Lewis Hodgson repeated his dominance in defence, but also had several attacking and 'jinking' runs which enabled his team-mate Lloyd Thomas to continue with his impressive try scoring tally. Lloyd showed the visitors he was a force to be reckoned with in all departments, especially in attack.
The final score was Tenby five tries, Latymer four.
The game was sportingly refereed by Gethin Evans who would agree with the coaches and parents attending that this was a very enjoyable morning of rugby. The talent displayed and sportsmanship shown by both camps was something the boys will remember for a long time to come.
Finally, a big thank you must go to Greg and Sal Davies. If it had not been for their input and dedication towards this event, Latymer Prep from Kingston London would not have had the opportunity to witness the Seasiders' hospitality.
