Survey work started last week on the Narberth Town Moor site and is expected to take between seven and nine months.
With regard to drainage problems, a number of test bore holes have been dug on the Carding Mill Lane pathway, with soil samples taken.
"I hope after the surveys are taken we will have a much clearer understanding of what the problems are, and the urgency needed in solving these problems," said county councillor Wynne Evans, who will be having regular meetings with officers updating him on progress.
