Despite the torrential downpour of New Year's Eve, New Year's Day dawned bright and breezy and the setting in Amroth was perfect for the annual dip!

There was lots of laughter and the good weather meant there was a good turnout to cheer on the dippers who were all set to raise money for charity.

Although onlookers may have thought the colourful dippers were mad, and would not have even contemplated putting a toe in the briny, the water was surprisingly warm.

However, the waves were incredibly high! But, never fear, the inshore lifeboat was on hand, but fortunately their services were not required.

Esme Gulliver, at 72 years of age, is to be congratulated on being the oldest dipper and eight-year-old Carwen Lawrence, the youngest, who has managed to raise £130. Dressed as Noddy, he was accompanied by Big Ears, Adrian Harbord.

Adrian and Jane Harries are both in the running for the highest sponsored individual, having collected almost £700 each. Two of the charities that will benefit from their efforts are Riding for the Disabled in Pembrokeshire and the Paul Sartori Fund.

Winners of the fancy dress were Terry Lester and Rosemary Maudsley who went into the sea as a Royal Visit! Terry as Prince Charles, and, Rosemary as the Tenby Observer. So far they have raised £500 towards Breast Cancer.

This was 16th year for the event and to date the merry dippers have raised over £50,000 for local charities. They are hoping that this year's efforts will see them top £55,000.
