A fund-raising luncheon for the 14th Tenby Arts Festival was held by kind permission of Lady Meyrick at Bush House, Gumfreston, last Sunday. Many Friends of the Festival, local music lovers and sponsors, of what has become a major annual event on the cultural calendar of Pembrokeshire, enjoyed splendid summer weather for an al fresco meal. The occasion was a chance to launch the programme for this year's festival and to make a special presentation to the young artist whose painting will be on the front cover of 12,000 brochures which will be distributed throughout Wales and the UK. Texaco Ltd is once again sponsoring the brochure print run and Mr. Phil Thompson was on hand to congratulate Rhiannon Harley, aged 10, from Tenby Junior School. Rhiannon recently won her age group in the Rotary painting competition with her colourful rendition of her favourite place in Tenby - the harbour. Her work so impressed the festival committee that they approached the budding artist for permission to use it in the festival publicity material. The festival, which will be held from September 17 -24, has the usual wide range of concerts, events and exhibitions guaranteed to appeal to all ages and artistic tastes. Of special interest this year is a concert from the international pianist Noriko Ogawa, classical music from Tempus, the Mezin String Quartet, Ember and jazz from the Memphis Seven. In addition there will be a season of vintage Ealing Comedies, a talk on Graham Sutherland to complement an exhibition in the Museum, drama from the Tenby Players, a Tango Workshop and songs from the Quaynotes, Tenby Male and Pembroke Male Choirs. The highlights will include a Gala evening of light entertainment and 'Abba Magic', a fantastic concert dedicated to that popular group by performers recognised as the best tribute band in Europe. All in all, a full and varied programme that kicks-off with the traditional street parade and harbour-side free show for all the family.
