Over 30 juniors keen to practice their swings and chip shots turned out last Saturday for Golf Foundation practice and competitions.
They were given the opportunity to practice and perfect their long game as well as their chip shots.
The chipping group were given the challenge to aim the ball into a circle of markers. Not the easiest of tasks, but some of the group did really well. Joe Worley was the overall winner, with Kerri Lewis showing the greatest improvement. Special mention also to Sam Baxter and Oliver Parsons who also did well.
On the long game they were given the challenge to score points over certain markers. David Webb proved to be the most consistent, hitting between the two umbrellas every time. Rhianna Davies proved to be the most improved player and no doubt we will be seeing both of these children playing regularly in the Sunday competitions.
Georgia Williams, Hugo Wellum, Joanna Rowe, Shelby Rossiter, Jack Murphy and Rhys Lewis also deserve a mention as their scoring proved to be high throughout the competition.
The second group also had target practice, which proved to be quite testing! Aiming the ball to land between two sets of markers, trying to adjust their swing and apply their skills to the shot did prove to be a challenge. They also had the task of chipping to a target. Georgia Thomas was the overall winner, with all her practising paying off. New boy, Sam James chipped in from just off the green! Not bad for a beginner.
Sunday was medal day. A lot of younger juniors turned out to play in the division two medal, but not so many in division one. The winner of division one was Jack Guerreriro, with Aled Rees winning division two. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
Four of our older juniors travelled to Priskelly last week to play in a senior competition, the first match of the season for this particular league. Oliver Duckett, Dan Cope, Richard Morton and Niclas Thomas played exceptionally well and were a credit to the junior section.
Tomorrow is our last Saturday session. Can I remind you that you are all invited to play on Junior Captain's Day on August 9, but you must let me know ASAP.
Girls, you have also been invited to play on Lady Captain's Day on Thursday, July 25. If you wish to play, please let me know ASAP.
