As the temperature rises outside and we say goodbye to the frosts and chilly weather, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales is brewing up a storm with their Weather and Water family concert.
Putting Cardiff and Haverfordwest on their weather map, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales will perform this fun interactive concert at St. David's Hall, Cardiff, on Friday, June 30, and Sir Thomas Picton School Hall, Haverfordwest on Saturday, July 1, at 7 pm.
Conducted by Gavin Sutherland, the concerts will be presented by Wales' favourites, weatherman Derek Brockway and BBC newscaster Jamie Owen. Combining big screen images and music, the programme will include well-known weather and water inspired themed classics such as Grieg's Morning, Handel's Water Music and Strauss' Thunder and Lightning Polka, as well as other favourites such as Under The Sea from the Little Mermaid and the theme tunes from Jaws and BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.
The weather and water-filled fun will also include the Sailors' Hornpipe, a special version of the shipping forecast and a performance by BBC National Orchestra of Wales principal percussionist, Chris Stock, making music using water.
Calling all budding weather presenters!
Members of the audience will have the chance of trying their hand at presenting the weather before the concert in a special session from 6.15 - 6.45 pm at St. David's Hall and at Sir Thomas Picton School. There will also be opportunities for audience participation during the concert. Weather and Water is being organised by the education and community department of the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales. The department extends the reach of the Orchestra and Chorus beyond the confines of the concert hall through workshops, projects and concerts for people of all ages and abilities.
This concert will be recorded by BBC Radio Wales for broadcast during the autumn. Tickets are on sale now at £6 for adults and £3 for children and concessions. Family tickets are also available. Seats are available from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales Audience Line on 0800 052 1812 - there is no charge for the call, postage or booking fee.
