On Thursday, August 23, a group comprising of 12 children from Tenby, Saundersfoot, Martletwy, Sageston and Pendine, visited Tenby Museum and Art Gallery.

Their visit was organised by the Headstart Play Care group, an all-year-round, out-of-school care service based in Saundersfoot.

Accompanied by two members of the Play Care supervisory team, Kay Edmonds from Marros and Kate Chandler, a recently qualified teacher from Sageston, the children spent an enjoyably entertaining time at the museum.

During their visit each child produced a drawing of their favourite object on display, ranging from the Bronze Age female skull, the grey seal pup displayed in the setting of a cave complete with mock rocks, damp and atmospheric sounds of the sea and the recreation of a Tenby gaol cell with its prisoner, Leekie Porridge, a notorious local pirate from the 18th century.

The visit, which was greatly enjoyed by the group and will be repeated in the future, was just one of many by groups of children to the museum, all of whom are given an opportunity to draw their favourite object.

The finished pictures are then displayed for other visitors to enjoy.

Through such ideas as the drawing sheets and activity sheets, and the policy of free access to Pembrokeshire children, it is hoped that children continue to be encouraged to visit the museum and all group visits are welcomed.
