Talented young footballers from all over the county were put through their paces this week, as Gordon Hill's Soccer School returned to Tenby's Clicketts ground for its seventh year. Former Manchester United, Milwall and Derby County player, Gordon, now lives in Dallas, Texas, but returns to Tenby every year to run the three- day footballing event, as well as one in Cardiff, before flying back to the States. Gordon who won seven caps for England, also runs his own school in Dallas and is hoping to get his school there, and also the Cardiff school, to all meet up at Tenby next year, and finish the event with an international tournament. Last year ,Gordon was delighted to become Tenby AFC's patron and this year, he kindly presented the club with a signed 1978 Manchester United shirt and also two photos signed by the United and England squads of 1978. Helping out in the coaching department for the second year at the school was former Wimbledon and Macclesfield player, Chas Osla, who along with Tenby's own Angela Nicholls and Haverfordwest County's Deryn Brace, helped organiser Dene Hurlow see that all the children involved got the most out of the three days. "It's been an absolute pleasure as always to come here to coach, and over the three days I've seen some smashing little players who have worked extremely hard at their game and if they stick at it could go very far," said Gordon. Awards given out at the soccer school went to the following: Angela's group - Elliot King, Max Brinley, Jack Broadhurst, Daniel Tiesing, Aaron Lloyd; Chas's group - Daniel Evans, Lois Horsley, Billy Truman, Sean O'Neil, William Davies; Deryn's group - Spencer Williams, Cameron Wood, Sam Butler, Richard Tebbutt, Lloyd Hughes. A special award presented by Gordon Hill went to Vicky Walters. Gordon also gave a special thanks to Dene Hurlow and Huw Bridges for all their efforts in organising the event.
