Tenby Junior Netball Club has just completed its second successful season playing in the Pembrokeshire League.
Despite being a relatively young squad, the team competed well against all opposition and gained valuable experience, which has made a huge contribution towards their progress.
The team had their final match last Tuesday against Milford, who were actual winners of the league. All combinations gave of their best, but narrowly lost to an older and more experienced team.
A meal and presentation was held after the match to reward and thank all players and parents for their efforts this season. Recipients of the awards were:
Best shooter: U9 - Jemima Childs and Billy Truman; U10 -- Jodie Dickinson; U11 - Danni Gristy. Most improved: U9 - Rachel Vickery; U10 - Claudia Belli; U11 - Rachel Hensman. Manager's players: U9 - Ella Brindley; U10 - Jodie Dickinson; U11 - Hannah Gray. Players' player: U9 - Polly Scotcher and Hari-Llyw Truman; U10 - Jodie Brace; U11 - Hannah Gray. Coaches player: U9 - Hari-Llyw Truman; U10 - Jodie Brace; U11 - Rachel Hensman. Everyone wished Danni, Rachel and Hannah good luck in the U14 squad next year.
On Saturday, two teams played in the county tournament held in Pembroke Leisure Centre. Rhiannon Ace, Wales's current international, attended to present certificates during the day and the Tenby 'A' team finished in style, winning the tournament, even beating old rivals Milford 8-2! In order to continue the development of the sport in Tenby, an Under 14 club will begin training in September. All pupils currently in Years 6, 7 and 8 will be eligible to play, but it is vital to involve as many volunteers as possible in order to sustain this new age group. Courses are being arranged during the summer and anyone interested in helping in whatever capacity needs to contact Delyth Truman on 845556.
