After a wet weekend which had resulted in cancellation of their planned Duck Race, members of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot were out in force on Tuesday, running their annual Sandcastle Competition on Saundersfoot beach.

One picture shows the enjoyment of children and their parents building sandcastles with guidance from the Rotary members present, and the other picture is of the eventual winning entry.

The sand was in an ideal condition for building sandcastles and there were 14 entries in all, each of them built to a high standard.

Rotarian Peter Williams organised the event and appointed the two judges, Mr. and Mrs. Watkins, visiting from Penarth, who selected the winning entry. They chose the magnificent circular castle, with walls, turrets and a moat which was built by Jasmine Pettifer, Hazel Pettifer and Seren Smith, under the watchful eye of Jasmine and Hazel’s mum, Kim Pettifer.

There can only be one first prize, but everyone was a winner, as all participating children were given prizes.

The Rotary Club of Saundersfoot are busy during the holiday season, and their next event is a Pig Roast, BBQ and Duck Race this Sunday, August 5, in Saundersfoot Harbour; as well as the succulent slow roasted pork, or BBQ burger, there will be a selection of other stalls to enjoy. Everyone is welcome.
