Last Saturday saw the launch of a new exciting fun football league, specially designed for youngsters aged from six to 11.
The children have been drawn from primary schools and clubs from all around the county, the only conditions being that they are not currently playing in organised Saturday morning football, there must be two girls in each squad and that all substitutes must play at least half a match.
The format is seven-a-side, mini football with lots of games in a two-hour session between 10 am and 12 noon. The festival league will run initially at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre astro turf (STP school) for 10 weeks, and continue thereafter subject to demand.
Organiser and FAW football development officer Gerry Rigby said: "I am delighted to see the start of this league which has followed many weeks of enjoyable hard work that we have done coaching the children from the primary schools in attendance here today. I would like to thank the teachers from those schools who have done such a lot of work in organising the children for this league, and so giving many of them their first taste of playing in a team. Most of these schools will be now entering into the very prestigious FAW School Accreditation Scheme."
Seen here with Sophie Rees (Clarbeston Road), Angharad Jenkins (Rosebush) and Angharad James (Llandissilio) are Gerry Rigby, Phil Thompson, Texaco public relations manager, and officials Laura Roberts, Carrie Slack, Nicola Aston, Imelde Rossi and Jamie Jenkins.
