A recently formed PPI (Patient and Public Involvement) group for the area, the 'South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network', held a successful first meeting last week in Tenby.

Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, one of those responsible for forming the group, told her colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, that there were plenty of familiar faces at the meeting, including many from the now disbanded group, the Tenby League of Friends.

"It was a good set of first discussions and the group has formed clear objectives, communication and consultation. It's important for members of the public to get involved with these meetings," said Clr. Mrs. Thomas.

First topics to be raised were concerns over cutbacks to out of hours services and that certain facilities at Tenby's new Cottage Hospital were not being used to full capacity.

Also brought before the town council was a response from local AM, Angela Burns, who said that she had written to the chief executive of the Pembrokeshire Local Health Board to clarify the number of clinics currently being held at Tenby Cottage Hospital.

Clr. Mrs. Thomas also reminded everyone that consultations upon on the future of CHCs in Wales were currently underway and that a presentation upon the Welsh Assembly Government's proposals would be held at the the Nant-y-ffin Hotel, Llandissilio, on April 7.

Councillors felt that it would be beneficial to invite Ashley Warlow, chief officer of Pembrokeshire CHC, to one of their meetings ahead of the consultation meeting.
